Tried and True Fourth of July Celebration Traditions

The Fourth of July is one of our favorite holidays to get together with friends and family and celebrate. Whether you celebrate in someone’s home, at a pool, the lake, or the beach, chances are you partake in some of our nation’s best Independence Day traditions.

Here are a few traditions that have stood the test of time and have proven to be some of the greatest July 4th traditions for everyone to enjoy.

Hang the Flag

This doesn’t require a big ceremony with everyone standing around at attention while Dad raises the flag and Mom sings the Star Spangled Banner. It is, however, a great opportunity to talk to our kids about the freedom we enjoy as Americans and a great way to start the day.

Enjoy a Parade

Many towns have local parades on the morning of the fourth. It’s a fun way to connect with the community. There’s also a good chance you’ll catch some glimpses of awe from children watching the fire trucks, horses, and red, white, and blue floats passing through the parade.

Eat good Food

Every good July 4th celebration has to include good food. Whether you enjoy a simpler hotdog and hamburger meal or you prefer to take it up a notch to steaks and ribs, grilling is a must for this holiday. Even if you are out and about, portable grills such as the Carri Chef 2 Grill, make it easy to enjoy a good barbecue wherever you are celebrating.

There are plenty of traditional sides that you can add to your menu, but make sure you add some red, white, and/or blue to your menu to keep it patriotic. Some people opt for watermelon, which requires little preparation, but others may like to go the extra mile. You can bake a sheet cake and add white icing and then decorate it to look like the American flag using blueberries for stars and sliced strawberries for stripes. Or, if you will have a place to keep them frozen, you can try festive, yet easy to make Red, White and Blue Ice Pops. If all else fails, whip out the ice cream maker and enjoy some homemade vanilla ice cream. It’s always sure to bring smiles to the whole crew.

Finally, you’ll probably want to end your day with a firework show. It doesn’t matter if you are setting them off or going somewhere to see them. Regardless, it’s sure to be fun entertainment for the whole family.

Happy Fourth of July, and whether you have been utilizing these traditions for years or just starting to create your family traditions, remember to stay safe and have lots of fun!
