How Long Your Perfume Will Last Depends on Where You Apply the Perfume

Did you know that where you apply your perfume can have an impact on how long your perfume will last?

The length of time a perfume lasts is actually determined by the level of concentration of the perfume. We just want to get the most of that time. The levels of concentration are Perfume, Eau de Parfum, Eau de Toilette, and finally Eau de Cologne. Perfumes last the longest, as this is the highest concentration of the fragrance. Perfume can last as long as 7 hours. Eau de parfum can last up to 5 hours; and so on. As the concentration level decreases, the length of time the scent is available shortens.

You can get the most of your fragrance if you pay attention to where you apply the perfume. The scent will last longer on moist skin, for instance. Apply the perfume to where you may take your pulse, like the underside of your wrist or on the side of your neck. Your skin is the warmest at these places on your body as this is where the blood flow is the greatest.

If your skin is dry you may need to apply the perfume more often than what you would like. A trick is to rub in a small dab of petroleum jelly to the area before you apply the perfume. This will provide a moisture layer that the perfume needs to release its fragrance for an extended length of time. But, remember to not rub in your perfume. It is best to dab or spray perfume.

The lower levels of perfume concentrations, like Cologne, often come in a spray bottle. Beside using the spray to apply the scent onto your skin as you would a perfume dabber, you can also spray these lower levels of perfume on your hair. Or, you can spray the perfume in the air and then walk through the mist. These methods of applying perfume create a subtle scent that is preferred by some women. However, the length of time the fragrance will last may not be as long because the moisture foundation is not there.
